Work-Place Readiness Program

An elective class currently offered to Juniors and Seniors who have completed P.E. and Health & Guidance. Students must have and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) describing the transitional plan and its employability goal and objectives.

WPR offers units on employability development. Its concept is to introduce, practice and build skills valued in the workplace. Work ethics (attendance, participation, communication and problem solving are practiced as the basis for day-to-day experiences.

Ka Loko I'a - The Fisheries

A major part of our WPR Program is the on-campus project, Ka Loko I'a - A Multi-Use Fisheries and Hatchery Facility. The fisheries facility offers hands-on Project-Based Learning for students with an interest in Fisheries Management.

WPR has developed School-to-Community partnerships with PAHIO Develpment, Inc., the Department of Education (Kapa`a High School), the Hawaii Nature Center, Dept. of Land and Natural Resources-Aquatics Division who act as consultants on the project as well as enthusiasts from the community. The goal is to improve recreational fishing, fisheries management and education of local resources through the use of the Wailua Fishing Area (WPFA). This facility is positioned to be the first student-run fishery in the State of Hawaii.
