Information Literacy Standards: Benchmarks for Collaborative Teaching
Grade 3 Skills List (Maunaloa Elementary)

Standard 1 &endash; The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively.

By the end of grade 3 the student will be able to:

  1. Identify information needs and locate information sources (print, non/print, magazines, reference materials).
  2. Use the OPAC and be able to do a subject, title or author search and locates the. resources.
  3. Uses CD ROM database searching.
  4. Use bookmarked internet sites.
  • Standard 2 &endash; The student who is information literate evaluates information critically and creatively.

    By the end of grade 3 the student will be able to:

    1. Evaluate books and other material for information needs.
    2. Takes notes on notecards without copying and by skimming and scanning.
    3. Cites the author, title and copyright of a source.
    4. Recognizes importance of copyright laws.

    Standard 3 &endash; The student who is information literate uses information accurately and creatively.

    By the end of grade 3 the student will be able to:

    1. Use information gathered to create a simple research project.
    2. Understand the different forms of presentations and select one.
    3. Become familiar with an assessment rubric.

    Literature Appreciation Skills

    • 1. Select and read from a variety of genre - fairy tales, poetry, humor, biographies.
    • 2. Select and read a wide variety of books that reflect personal interest.
    • 3. Respond to literature using drama, art, writing experiences or music.
    • 4. Recite short poems.

    ACTIVITIES
