Information Literacy Standards: Benchmarks for Collaborative Teaching
Grade 4 Skills List (Maunaloa Elementary)

Standard 1 &endash; The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively.

By the end of grade 4 the student will be able to:

  1. Identify information needs and locate a variety of information sources.
  2. Use the OPAC using keyword search and locate materials using the call numbers.
  3. Locate magazines, atlases, and different types of databases (electronic or print)
  4. Use internet search engines.
  • Standard 2 &endash; The student who is information literate evaluates information critically and creatively.

    By the end of grade 4 the student will be able to:

    1. Select information relevant to question/problem from a variety of sources.
    2. Determine the most appropriate source for needed information.
    3. Take notes by identifying key words and using own words to record information.
    4. Cite all sources of information
    5. Compile a complete bibliography, using a standard citation form.

    Standard 3 &endash; The student who is information literate uses information accurately and creatively.

    By the end of grade 4 the student will be able to:

    1. Recognize the different forms of presentation and use the most appropriate format.
    2. Become familiar with an assessment rubric.

    Literature Appreciation Skills

    • Select and read from a variety of genre - folklore, mysteries, poetry, fantasy/adventure
    • Select and read books of merit - Newbery, Nene, etc.
    • Respond to literature using drama, art, writing experiences or music.
    • Recite short poems with expression.
