Course Description This course will survey fundamental concepts and terms of discrete math. Specifically, logic, sets, functions, matrices, algorithmic concepts, mathematical reasoning, counting techniques, elementary probability theory, relations, equivalences, and graphs will be covered.
Learning Strategy

Because E-School is a distance-learning environment, the lectures' content has been converted to a new technology.  Microsoft Agent places animated characters on PowerPoint Web pages. These characters have a dialog on the topic.  A text-to-speech engine provides the spoken words while the animated characters lip-sync.

The student will need to use the textbook, by Rosen, for reference and for homework assignments.

All interaction with the students, including submission of homework assignments, will be done through e-mail.

Environmental Constraints Microsoft's Agent Technology currently limited to the following environment:
  • PC platform
  • Windows 95/98/NT operating system
