Ilima Intermediate is located in Ewa Beach, O`ahu, Hawai`i, approximately 20 miles from downtown Honolulu. Originally, the school served both intermediate and high school students. In 1969, Ilima Intermediate became its own entity as an independent public secondary school for the Ewa area, which includes the neighborhoods of Ewa, East Kapolei, Honouliuli, Ocean Pointe, West Loch, and parts of Iroquois Point and Waipahu with all students attending James Campbell High School.
According to the 2000 Census data, in the Campbell area, the median age is 31.8, with a higher percentage of children from birth to age 5 and a lower percentage of senior citizens than in most other communities. At least half of the residents of the Campbell area are Asian; 35% of those who identify themselves as Asian are Filipino, a percentage higher than 90% of communities Statewide; almost 17% of the population who are Asian identify themselves as Hawaiian or Part-Hawaiian. Additionally, African Americans, though their numbers are small (2.2%), are found here in a slightly greater numbers when compared to the state average (1.8%).
