Program Description

The Hawaiian Language Immersion Program (HLIP), ka Papahana Kaiapuni Hawai'i, is a K-12 program that provides, on a limited site basis, educational instruction and experiences leading to the fulfillment of the Hawai'i Content and Performance Standards, through the use of the Hawaiian language as the medium of instruction. English instruction begins in grade 5 and continues on to grade 12. The program develops a high level of self-esteem and entusiasm for learning within its students. The students understand that they will be responsible for the perpetuation of the native Hawaiian language and be the stewards of the cultural heritage of the indigenous people of Hawai'i.
