Many students might not like to read by themselves, but get the whole class reading, outloud, using sound effects and drama, and well, welcome to Mad Scientists ReadersTheater!
During the summer of 2006, Mrs. Prevenas learned how to write, teach, and perform Readers Theater for her students at a Maui Arts and Cultural Center Summer Institute. She had her doubts, but she followed the directions outlined at the institute and soon all her students were enjoying the activity. Drama in science class seemed like a good way for her students to learn.
Mrs. Prevenas has a Readers Theater activity for 6 out of the 8 units. She hopes that this year, some talented students will want to try their hand at the writing so the rest of the students can enjoy this activity for every one of the units. Her Readers Theater plays are on the scientific method, water cycle, cells, photosynthesis, classification, and the ecology of Northwestern Hawaiian Islands .
