Plesiosaurus the Dinosaur

The name of this dinosaur is the Plesiosaurus. His name means, "Ribbon Lizard." Its size is 13 high feet 46 feet long. It lived in the sea and on land. It ate fish and other sea animals. An interesting fact is the Plesiosaurus' long long neck was as big as his body. Another interesting fact is he used its neck like a sling to throw its head at his prey. Another interesting fact is a Plesiosaurus is not a dinosaur. It is a reptile.

Plesiosaurus

The Plesiosaurus were not dinosaurs but were marine reptiles. They lived in the ocean and all over the world. They ate fish, squids, crustaceans and other marine creatures. It caught its food by swimming after it and biting it with its sharp teeth.

They lived in the early Jurassic Period. This reptile's name means "Long Neck." It was the Plesiosaurus that is associated with the Loch Ness Monster.

The Plesiosaurus has a small head with a short skull. The neck is very long and it has a broad body, four flipper-like limbs and a tail. The enemies of the Plesiosaurs were large Icthyosaurus and other dinosaurs. It protected itself by swimming faster and using its teeth and tail to defend itself.

The Plesiosaurus like all other sea reptiles, had lungs, not gills. This meant that they had to come to the surface for air just like the whales, dolphins and turtles of today.
