The Great Sphinx at Giza was a huge, 240 foot long statue caved out of limestone. It had the head of a human and a body of a lion. This strange statue looks like a crouching lion with a human head. It is believed that the face of the statue was carved to look like one of Khufu's children. The Great Sphinx guarded the pyramids of Giza. The sphinx was the largest head of stone in the world until the Americans carved the faces of 4 Presidents into Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. |
