Jump to Educational Opportunity Center | New Student Orientation | Compass Testing

Registration for Fall 2011 begins in April.  For more information, times, or to reserve your space, call 984-3286.  Get an early start on college to get the classes you want at the times you need.  The Educational Opportunity Center is a federally funded TRIO program that provides college access services. Visit at maui.hawaii.edu/services/eoc or stop by our office on the UH Maui College campus in the Hookipa Building.

Interested in college but unsure of where to begin?  The University of Hawaii Maui College’s Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is offering FREE weekly college admissions advising and financial aid workshops throughout the summer. Workshops are open to any Maui County resident, including high school seniors, interested in college on Maui or elsewhere. Attendees will get the inside scoop on college admissions, financial aid, testing, housing, and other issues important to new students.

COMPASS Testing: Students need to apply for a University of Hawaii identification number & take the COMPASS test at UHMC Learning Center. Testing will no longer take place at the Kekaulike campus.

Maui Community College (MCC) has a mandatory New Student Orientation (NSO) The packet includes the following that must be completed prior to a NSO session:
  • Kama‘aina Application (only Maui county high school seniors)
  • Health Clearance requirements: TB test & MMR records
  • Obtain a UH user name
  • Study & take the MCC COMPASS placement test for English & Math

Reserve a space & attend a New Student Orientation (NSO)  Seniors should get this done early so that they can concentrate on scholarship applications & their high school graduation in the new year!  Any questions, contact Francine Ching, Retention Coordinator at 984-3495.

University of Hawaii-Maui College’s (UHMC) Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally-funded TRIO program that provides post-secondary educational information, financial aid resources, & career exploration to any Maui County adult interested in college at UHMC or elsewhere.  EOC is the only program of its kind in the state of Hawai‘i & has helped over 30,000 Maui County residents since it began in 1977.  Many have gone on to college, some to graduate school, & many have entered careers they would never have dreamed possible before.
        a.        The Maui office is in UHMC’s Ho’okipa Bldg.
        b.        Services are free & available on an individual, group or outreach basis by walk-in or appointment basis.  Need help?  Call 984-3286 & ask for Mona Stevenson or speak to another counselor.  Classes are filling up, so interested students should get started asap!
