Uniform Policy

School Year 2010-2011

Schools throughout the country have experienced improved student behavior, friendlier school climates, and enhanced school pride by establishing uniform dress code policies. The King Intermediate SCBM Council adopted a student uniform policy beginning in school year 1999-2000. Our goals were to improve student safety, increase school pride, reduce the financial burden for school clothes, and improve school climate. If you want to support school safety, please support our student uniform policy.

What is the policy?

All students are expected to wear student uniforms beginning the very first day of the school year. The uniform must be worn upon entering the campus until leaving school. No Exceptions! (Dirty clothes is not a valid excuse)

Uniforms include:

   1)   The student uniform t-shirt that can be purchased from school;

   2)   Bottoms (skirts, pants, shorts, capris, etc.) that are at least pointer-fingertip length or with a 4" inseam;

   3)   Students' uniform sold the previous year;

   4)   Footwear is required;

Jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts are allowed but should not contain any distasteful slogans, profanity, or images. It must be an open front jacket/sweatshirt. No pullovers allowed. Uniforms may not be altered or changed from the original appearance unless the child has special needs approved by an administrator prior to alterations.

Assistance for Financial Need?

In order to assist our families who may be having some financial difficulty, 2 free t-shirts for the first 3 t-shirts purchased only. Eligibility is determined by free or reduced lunch standards.

How to Purchase?

Please call the office (233-5727) for more information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Laimana, or Mrs. Alaiasa at (808) 233-5727.

Opting Out?

Parents of incoming 7th graders and current 7th graders wishing to file for an exemption should complete an Opt Out application which is available at the King Intermediate Office. All Opt Out applications are to be turned in to the office NO LATER THAN JUNE 5TH, 3:30 p.m.

New students to the Castle Complex will have up to 5 business days to complete the process after enrollment. LATE REQUESTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

After receipt of the application, the principal or vice principal will call to set up a meeting with the parent/guardian and child to discuss the reasons for the request. A decision will be rendered shortly thereafter.
