On
April 22, 2003, 38 Na Holo I Kahiki team students, along
with 4 team staff members, participated in this year's
15th Annual
EARTH DAY CELEBRATION produced by Hawai`i
Community College (HawCC), and held at the upper campus
of the University
of Hawaii Hilo Campus (UH-Hilo) and HawCC. Students
were treated to a full day
of hands-on activities that included a Native Garden
walking tour and several Hawaiian culture activities.
Our
team (among nearly 1200 students who attended the Fair
with their teachers) also went to the UHH
Campus Theater during the morning portion of the Fair,
to hear guest speakers--they were treated to a powerful
slideshow presentation by renowned Hokule'a navigator
Nainoa
Thompson--Executive Director of the Polynesian
Voyaging Society (PVS), as he shared with them his
vision and commitment in educating Hawaii's youth on the
need to respect and protect their environment.
