The Card Players, by
Paul Cézanne, painted in 1891, is 111 years old. Paul
Cézanne painted many pictures of Mount Sainte-Victoire,
smokers, card-players and bathers, and still lifes and portraits. His
painting was at the beginning of a time when artists painted just to
give you the idea of what the subject was. They were not interested
in clear paintings. They enjoyed the colors more. You can tell this
painting is in the middle of the other two paintings because the
brush strokes don't look as careful as The Oath, and the colors are
not as bright as The Old King.
