II. PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
B. It is unsure whether the school will continue with America's Choice intensive or array of services; it is a CAS decision.
C. The request for redistricting home school lines is still under advisement.
D. Nelson stressed that the bottom line for Makaha Elementary is not test scores-there are many positive things happening in school.
B. Classified: Momi reported that they are seeking members for the Positive Action Cadre-they will revisit the bell schedule and behavior matrix, hopefully simplifying the system so that it will be easier to follow.
C. Parents: No report.
D. Students: The students did a Food Drive that benefited 14 families with boxes of non-perishable food items. The Student Council is also coordinating the weekly collection of ICU messages, and is assisting in kindergarten classes. The Student Council is planning a Leadership Camp some time in May.
E. Community: A question was asked regarding the abundance of PR and donations to Kamaile Elementary. Nelson shared that while they get publicity about their donations, Makaha has also been receiving many donations also. We have received boxes of rubber slippers, toiletries, and canned goods. Nuuanu Elementary School has donated 400 pounds of food and two truckloads of gently used clothing and toys. These were distributed to families before the Christmas break.
Credit Work projects and the upcoming book about Hoa Aina also helps to build sense of community.
B. Topic for next meeting: Request for additional waiver days (proposal due 1/31/07)
