I. WELCOME (ELIZABETH KALAMA, Chairperson): The meeting was called to order at 3:42 PM in the school library. Members introduced themselves and a member roster was distributed.

viii. SCHEDULE SCC MEETINGS FOR NEXT YEAR, SCC SCHOOL-COMMUNITY MEETINGS #1 & #2 FOR NEXT YEAR.
It was noted that:
1. Only 3% tested well below in Grade 3 reading.
2. Each year, test gets more difficult.
3. There will be a new test this year.

5. Stanines 123 =low, 456=average, 789=high. Grade 3 & 6 reading: 5, 4, 4, 4, grade 3 math stanine 6!
B. Determining Overall AYP & NCLB status (handout)
a. We are a restructured school, since we did not meet all the benchmarks.
b. We will need to turn in weekly data.
c. We will need to administer quarterly tests- Lernia
1. Waianae complex agreed to use AIR tests (State hired this company to do new Hawaii State Assessment.
d. Our path remains the same.
e. Impact on budget: We need to return $47,000 to the state, and will do this through attrition when our 1.5 PSAP Eas retire.
f. Impact on personnel: The school lost 2 Special Education Teachers and 2 educational assistants. Will use Title I funds to buy regular teacher and 1 educational assistant. g. We are the only school in Waianae complex losing money.
C. Strategic Plan: MES updated January 8, 06 (handout)
a. Nelson reviewed the prioritized strategic actions for this school year.
D. School Academic Plan (handout)
a. Nelson distributed and reviewed the school’s academic plan to give SCC members an overview of the school’s direction.
E. Feedback from Student Members of the SCC
a. More sports in school: intramural?
b. More sports at recess for older students: football, dodgeball, tetherballs, tennis.
i. Student Council may be doing more skillbuilding, and coordination of activities at recess.
c. Students would like air conditioners in classrooms.
i. Nelson stressed the need to do data collection so that we have a solid rationale for air conditioning.
SODA MACHINE: PEPSI VS. COKE: We have been having some difficulty with the Pepsi vendor – machine runs out in 2-3 days, deliveries happening every two weeks or so. It was agreed by everyone present that the school may switch to Coca Cola. Lynn will follow-up with members not present.
