MAIN PROBLEM
The main problem in Banner In The Sky is that Rudi wants to be a mountain guide, but his mother and uncle wont let him. To top that off, his father died on a mountain (the most challenging and deadly one of all, too), trying to conquer it. Its still unconquered and everyone calls it the "Killer Mountain." They say demons guard it and no one even wants to look at it. But the other problem is that Rudi wants to conquer it. He wants to prove that he can do it. Now the question is... will he get both his wishes?

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

EVENT

CHARACTER SHAPING DECISIONS
Winter recieved a huge and painful injury on his head from an avalanche, while practice-climbing on the Citadel with Rudi and guide Saxo from Broli. When this event happened, it was not such as a major event as it became throughout the way. Even so, afterwards, it effected the entire story. This effected the entire story because when they where climbing the Citadel, Winter started recieving coughing fits and to top that off... his injured head was more painful than ever. Then there approached the real problem... he told Rudi, Saxo, and Franz to go on without him. Saxo wished to go, although Franz was a loyal guide to his herr and said no. So then came the part where the real challenge came... "Will anyone get to the top? What would happen?" The injury on Captain Winter's head basically started it all, and that is why it was a significant event to remember. It also showed that Captain Winter wasn't a giver-upper and cared about others.
Rudi achieving his goal to move fast the fortress (where no man has even gone past before) and spending the night on the Citadel. When Rudi achieved the goal of getting past the fortress, it made him feel more confident and have more courage . He felt brave and knew he could do it at that point. And, when he spent the night on the Citadel and survived... that gave him even more confidence! This was a very important event because it also led to the fact of his uncle Franz agreeing to let him climb the Citadel with him. It proved to him that he could do it and showed his skill and courage.
Franz (Rudi's uncle) agreeing to climb the Citadel and agreeing to let Rudi climb it. This was a very important decision that Franz made, becasuse it effected the entire sotry. When Franz choose to climb the Citadel with Rudi and Captain Winter and his enemy Saxo, then all the real action began. If he haden't agreed, then Rudi wouldn't even be on the Citadel. His uncle was really againt him having anything to do with mountains, in support of his mother. Look at that... first he starts out going to the hut Winter and Saxo where staying in just to seize Saxo or something and get back Rudi, but he ends up actually climbing the Citadel himself. This also showed that Franz actually really did want to climb it deep inside, and he felt that Rudi could do it, too.
Rudi choosing to help Saxo. Now this was the most important event of them all! This was going to solve the problem right then and there. When Rudi choose to help Saxo when he fell, a lot of events happened. He finally discovered who he was at that point... caring, brave, sincere, and like his father. He realized that helping Saxo was what his father would have done and he didn't call out to Franz and Winter, either, because then no one would get to the top and it was fair for the Herr (Winter) to get to the top of the mountain. He gave up everything just to help Saxo. His decision also led to the point where the other problem gets solved... he finally gets to be a guide. He had sacrificed his dreams to help another. His mother realized that he deserved it and he had not only the skill, but the heart. She realized that she had been trying to make his decisions, live his life for him.

RESOLUTION
The resolution of the story, "Banner In The Sky" is when Rudi chooses to help Saxo, which I talked about earlier: This was going to solve the problem right then and there. His mother realized that he deserved it and he had not only the skill, but the heart. She realized that she had been trying to make his decisions, live his life for him. Rudi finally discovered who he was and got to be a guide, which was to him at that point the only thing that mattered. He wanted to be the conquerer of the Citadel, but he felt even better about doing something so good.

GENERALIZATION
The generalization of Banner In The Sky is mainly to discover who you are, and to never give up on your dreams. When Rudi Matts mother tells him to stay away from the mountains, did he give up? No. He just kept on following his dream. And, at the end, Rudi Matt had to make a very important decision. A decision that would possibly effect his entire life. So, as it turns out, he finally finds out who he is and what his choice is.

AUTHOR NOTES

Overall, I'd have to say this book was pretty good. I mean, first I thought that it would be pretty boring, but when I started reading it... I'd have to say I'd give the book thumbs up! Don't judge a book by its cover. Thats what I have to say. There has been a few other books that I judged by its cover, but guess what? It turned out pretty good.

Banner In The Sky was a book with many problems, resolutions, thoughts, different character point of views, figurative language, major events, and had a good moral to the story. Ullman made this story interesting to read for all ages. I'd say ages 11-17 it would seem most interesting to? He made the story with so much problems and used so much creativity that you couldn't put the book down! I am sure you have a favorite book kind. Like realistic fiction, fantasy, horror -- wait, lets stop there. The list could go on and on! But, I'd say that most people like action things or horror or mystery stories. I admit, I do too. R.L Stine would be a good horror writer and when you get to the scary part, you cant put it down, can you? What about mystery... you cant wait to find out what the solution is, cant you? But its just the same with Banner In The Sky. I thought it would be boring, but was I wrong! When you got to the tense parts of Banner In The Sky, it was just as interesting as any other good book you have read. Just so some of you horror fans get a little more interested in a book, I'll tell you that in one of the chapters it is pretty scary and its called "A boy meets a ghost" or something similar. But, anyway, I just want to say that Banner In The Sky was a good book and that you shouldn't judge it by its cover.
