Student Achievement Data School Characteristics Students are grouped heterogeneously by grade levels, Kindergarten through sixth grade. In 2007, we started our first Special Education Preschool class. The number of classes have remained fairly consistent over the past few years. Our master schedule incorporates an uninterrupted Literacy Block to support all learners. This common time allows the opportunity for support staff to go into the general education classrooms. Students with special needs are supported in the general education environment to the extent possible. Manana Elementary continues to focus on providing a nurturing environment. The 3 We’s: We are Safe, We are Respectful, We are Responsible are our overarching school-wide rules. These guiding beliefs support the philosophy that we need accountability, have a relationship and connection to others, and a commitment to look after our community and beyond. As part of the General Learner Outcomes, children are expected to take responsibility for their own actions and to follow the expectations for courtesy, safety and respect for people and property set out by the school. Increasing self-discipline is expected as children grow and mature. Recognizing that they are part of a group and the broader school community, children are expected to work collaboratively and to participate in problem solving in a constructive manner. The faculty and staff work in a collegial manner among the grade levels and with the special education teachers to educate and develop the “whole child.” The classified staff (part-time teachers, clerical, custodians, educational assistants, and cafeteria) provides further support with their talents, time and efforts. Our school annually receives high recognition of outstanding performance for maintaining high standards of hygiene, sanitation and health, safety, maintenance and physical appearance from the School Inspection Program. In addition, Manana Elementary annually implements an evacuation plan both on campus as well as off campus in the event of an emergency. For more information, please visit the following websites: 1.
