Model Unit Plan Overview

This unit is comprised of three grade levels (1, 4, 5) and the Library Media Center that will guide students through how they will survive and protect the Hawaiian ecosystem, with Kanaha Ponds Wetlands as the example.

Students will focus on Kanaha Pond Wetlands plants, animals, and land formations at the different grade levels.

We need to prepare our students to think as citizens who respect and value the environment because they will inherit the roles of caretakers (hoa'aina) of the land, plants, and animals of Hawaii, with a specific local example, the Kanaha Ponds Wetlands.

From this specific example, we hope our students will generalize and gain respect for Hawaiian land, animals, and plants and transfer it further to respect for "me" and respect for "others."
