What is fantasy? Yes, it is a story with unrealistic elements like a character with magical powers or an animal that thinks and speaks like people or a setting that could not exist as we know today.
Look at a tv schedule or view various programs during the week and list on a chart which programs are fantasy and what was fantastic.
Consider the following:
Third Rock from the Sun, Star Trek, X-Files, Pokemon, Digimon: Digital Monsters, Outer Limits, The Jetsons, Flintstones, Powerpuff Girls, X Men, Power Rangers, Touched by an Angel, Batman, Twilight Zone, Little Bear, Dragon Ball Z, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, So Weird, Now and Again, Arthur, Bugs Bunny and Daffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed
Look for fantasy in TV programs (e.g. In Pokemon, there are pocket monsters who duel and have special powers. Plot of capturing the pocket monsters to become a master trainer is also unrealistic.) Complete the chart below.

Questions to keep in mind:
1. Which tv stories were meant to be fantasy?
2. Which were meant to be realistic, but had some elements of fantasy that made them unbelievable? Could these stories be confusing?
3. Suppose you were a tv script writer. Which of these stories on your chart would you rewrite? Why?
