House forms were constructed from railroad board.

Ingredients:

25 lbs. flour
12 12-oz. bottles of molasses
1/2 cup baking soda
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup allspice (1 bottle)
1/4 cup ground cloves (1 bottle)
1/2 cup ground ginger (1 bottle)
8 cups water
2 lbs. Crisco
5 lb. brown sugar

(makes 48 lb. of dough- enough for 24 houses)
 
Form into 2 lb. bricks, chill for 2 hours.
 
       
Roll out on 12" x 18" wax paper taped down to desk. Sprinkle with flour and roll to that size.
Patterns are placed on the dough and dough is cut with razor blades. Extra dough can be cut with cookie cutters to add decorative pieces.
Cut-out pattern pieces are placed on parchment paper on trays and baked for 10 minutes at 350°F.
