SOME CLASSROOM APPLICATIONS
For Kid Pix Drawing
DRAWING
SLIDE SHOW
ANIMATION

Kindergarten.... Students will be able to use the kidpix drawing tools to illustrate their animal. Students will also be able to write their name and a sentence about their animals using the Talking Alphabet Stamp or the Typewriter.

Grade 1 .... Students will be able to illustrate an insect of their choice and record their voices stating one fact about their insect in a slide show production.

Grade 4... Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of simple machines by animating a device to perform a particular task given by the teacher.

Grade 1 ... Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the insects by illustrating the life cycle of a butterfly on kidpix. Students will label the stages using the Typewriter Tool.

Grade 2 .... Students will be able to illustrate their writings and record their voices in a slide show production.

Grade 4 - 6 .... Students animate objects to demonstrate the concept of adding and / or subtracting for students in Kindergarten or first grade.

Grade 1 ... Students will be able to illustrate their mammal as described by their writings.

Grade 3.... Students illustrate verses of a song to which they add their recorded voices and set the timer to correspond with the time of the music.

Grade 4 - 6 .... Students demonstrate undertanding of change over a period of time through animation

Grade 2 - 3 ... Draw a map of your community, complete with a legend.

Grade 3 -6.... Students create a slide show production to demonstrate a "How To" activity.

Grade 2 - 6 ... Students will be able to enhance their writings will their own illustrations created in Kid Pix.

Grade 5 ... Students illustrate and retell the journey of one of the explorers from their point of view. Slide show includes their photograph as one of the explorers.

ASSESSING PROJECTS

Developing Criteria for Assessment

:
 
  1. Determine what learning or computer skills you want a student to demonstrate through this project.
  2. Design a project that will allow each student to demonstrate this learning of skill.
  3. Go over the requirements or criteria for the project with your students before the begin.
  4. If you are creating an electronic template for students to use if appropriate, add a text prompt or use a microphone to record directions as part of the template.
  5. Use the established criteria to review students' work.
  6. Print or save student work for use in a portfolio or other evaluation.

Assessing a Kid Pix Picture:

  1. DO evaluate children's work by looking at each finished picture and checking to see if specified criteria such as the following have been met:
    • Use of graphics
    • Effective use of sound
    • Inclusion of informative text
    • Correct use of language and punctuation, if applicable.
  2. DO NOT evaluate pictures on the child's drawing capablilities.
  3. DO Evaluate pictures on:
    • Effort the child has put into each creation
    • Demonstrated understanding of the criteria and the task
    • Demonstrated understanding of the subject area involved.

ASSIGNMENT

Select to do two of the following

  1. Create a slide show of your choice. (Must have at least 5 pictures in it)
    • Create a slide show demonstrating how to do something or illustrate a story to tell. (your choice)
  2. Create an animation (relate it to a topic of your choice)
  3. Create a lesson which integrates what you learned today into your curriculum.
    • Do include the Hawaii Content Standards for your content area and for Technology.

For those seeking PD credits

  1. Create a lesson which integrates KidPix into your curriculum, aligning it with as many Technology Standards and Content Area Standards as possible.
  2. Try out your lesson in your classroom.
  3. Keep a log of what you did. What worked. What didn't. What you would do differently.
  4. Include samples of your work and/or students works.
