We are now hiring Part-Time Educators!

The Ko'olauloa Community Learning Center , a Windward District DOE project and 21 st Century KCLC grant recipient, is seeking qualified after school tutors and teachers with experience with small group instruction in reading and math for students in grades 2-12. Tutors must be qualified as Para-Professional Tutor, or Part-Time Teacher (teaching experience and BA or higher) to work part-time at the following sites:

  • Hauula Elementary
  • Ka'a'awa Elementary
  • Kahuku Elementary
  • Laie Elementary
  • Kahuku High and Intermediate
  • Sunset Beach Elementary.

The Ko'olauloa Community Learning Center is also seeking experienced teachers or specialists in at least one of the following areas:

Character Education * Environmental / Outdoor Educations * Financial Literacy * Hands-on Learning * Motheread (NCH) * Native Hawaiian Culture* Public Speaking * Service Learning * Storytelling * Teaching core subjects through Art and/or Theatre * Technology and Media

Job Details for Tutors or Instructors: KCLC Instructors and Tutors are individuals dedicated to the academic enrichment of the students; they are able to engage the students' minds and aid them in developing a love of learning for life. A strong KCLC tutor motivates students effectively and helps the program's popularity and success. After school help is voluntary and free, so tutors and instructors who can keep students interested and maintain high enrollment make the most difference. Tutors and Instructors must be able to work with small groups of students, design 6-8 week long instructional unit plans, develop and administer engaging lessons, track progress using innovative assessment methods, and work effectively with colleagues and school day teachers.

Recruitment for the 2006-07 school year ends June 30, 2006.

Hours and Pay: Based on qualifications and schedule. (PPT) Para-Professional Tutor ($11.92/hr). (PTT) Part-Time Teacher ($20.67/hr -$22.43/hr)

IMPORTANT: KCLC staff will participate in regular meetings, data collection, evaluation, and reporting procedures such as the following: course proposal; detailed course outline; student portfolios; accurate attendance and student information; surveys and questionnaires. Staff must follow the budgetary and personnel procedures established by KCLC. KCLC personnel are paid through the Windward DOE at current DOE casual payroll rates.

Tutors (PPT/PTT): Tutors must have experience in age-appropriate small group instruction and with reading and math curriculum. The ideal applicant will be able to motivate and inspire young people to improve their academic performance, and be able to apply creative approaches to learning that will engage students and keep interest high.

Hawaiian Immersion Assistant/ Tutor (PPT/PTT): Seeking a fluent speaker of Hawaiian, familiar with Hawaiian immersion programs to work after school with immersion students at Hauula Elementary.

After School Enrichment Teachers(PPT/PTT): Enrichment classes must have an academic emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Service Learning, and Nutrition/Health. The ideal enrichment instructor is creative and energetic with a passion for hands-on learning. Enrichment classes begin three weeks after the KCLC program opens and classes run 1 hour /day for four days per week for 8-10 weeks with the possibility of continuing throughout a school year (three times).
