"The family is the rock on which a solid education can be built. I have seen examples all over this nation where two-parent families, single parents, step parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles are providing strong family support for their children to learn. If families teach the love of learning, it can make all the difference in the world to their children."
~Richard W. Riley, U.S Secretary of Education

Research has shown that when families become personally involved in education, their children... |
- Are happier, more positive and have a stronger sense of self-worth
- Get better grades, do better on tests, and are more likely to go on to higher education
- Have better social skills, less behavioral problems, and are less likely to use drugs and alcohol

How can I get involved in my child's education today? |
- Encourage progress in school by showing genuine interest in your child's activities, homework and teachers. Homework help time can be an incredibly valuable experience for everyone, and allows you time to truly bond.
- Show your child that you value learning, hard work, discipline, and goals for the future.
- Read to your child. This can be the single most effective tool, and is especially crucial in early development.
- Set goals and rules, such as limiting television on school nights.
- Talk with your child. This is one of the first steps in building a relationship of trust and love. Let your example reflect the values that you would like them to build into their lives.
- Encourage imagination, exploration and discovery! Make learning a part of the every day experience. You can do this in your own home, or plan a visit to a museum, zoo, library or science fair.
- Develop a connection with your childs school, friends and after school programs. Volunteeer, vote, or even just a visit can make all the difference in the world..
