In old Hawai'i, aloha kekahi i kekahi meant to love one another unconditionally.  There were no bounds or limits.  The innate quality of giving totally of one's self to another meant to care for everyone as extended family.

Today, aloha kekahi i kekahi is expressed with warm affection towards other people;  classmates, teammates, friends and family, in greeting and farewells.  Children are the models of aloha kekahi i kekahi.  They say exactly what they are thinking and feeling.  They speak openly and freely.  Children accept differences, share laughter, and bond together in true friendship and aloha.  Children are the keepers of aloha.

Aloha kekahi i kekahi is...

  • Love towards others
  • Compassion
  • Kindness
  • To remember with affection
