Miss Komatsu is in her 23rd(!) year of teaching. She has taught at three schools--Ka'ala School in Wahiawa (Grade 4), Pearl Harbor Elementary School (Kindergarten) and Kalihi-Kai School, where she presently teaches music. She began working with children as a teenager and she hasn't stopped yet. She has worked with children in many different ways: • coaching various youth sports
(baseball being her favorite) Miss Komatsu received her B.Ed in Elementary Music and her Professional Diploma from the University of Hawai'i. She is certified in Orff-Schulwerk (Levels I and II) and is a member of the Hawai'i Orff Schulwerk Association, American Orff Schulwerk Association, Music Educators' National Conference and Hawai'i Music Educators' Association. Miss Komatsu was a small-time professional musician, performing on the alto recorder and WX11 MIDI Wind Controller (wind synthesizer) with her guitarist/singer sister Joanie Komatsu. Joanie and "her sister Ruth" can be heard on a few CDs. They have since retired from performing regularly. They only sing for their mom nowadays. |
