World War II goes on in Europe while the people of Hawaii (Hawaiians, Haoles, Japanese, Portugese, Latino & etc.) go on with their daily routine. This story is about a part of World War II, particularly the attack on Pearl Harbor that infamous day in December, 1941.

In this unit, you will read about the different points of view regarding the war and the countries involved. Questions of comprehensive, literal, inferential and opinionated nature will be asked. You are to apply your knowledge of what you read, as well as your past experiences in answering the questions.

The finale project will be a technological presentation.

Pre-requisites:

  1. Clear understanding of "Conflict & Cooperation, Unity & Diversity, and Cause & Effect".
  2. General knowledge of World War II as it was fought in the Pacific.
  3. The significance of the attack on Pearl Harbor.and the bombing of Hiroshima.
  4. Know the definition of Patriotism and Prejudice.
  5. Able to utilize and have access to a word processing program with little or no assistance.
  6. Have access to and able to create a multi-media presentation using various tools (digital camera, scanner, softaware such as PowerPoint, Hyperstudio, MediaMonster, or AvidCinema)

Objectives:

The objectives of this project is to create an awareness, understanding and a sense of empathy for what the Japanese-American people endured during World War II (specifically the attack on Pearl Harbor). Students will investigate & gain a global awareness about the putpose & function of the attack, present day implications, the impact it had/has & what solutions have come about as a result of the war. This understanding and learning will result in a multi-media creation.
