Electronic School C ourse: Business Communication Technology

Course Description

An introductory E-School course in the field of information telecommunications technologies and networking. Issues addressed throughout the course include Acceptable Use Policy, Netiguette, copyright and licensing, ehtics and responsible use, research and development, media literacy, publishing, collaboration, and electronic publishing. Students will work both independently to investigate salient issues of telecommunications in education and collaboratively online (electronic mail, web page, IRC chat, or television/video conferencing) to share as content experts on learning experiences. Students must be highly motiviated, self-directed and interested in exploring telecommunications technologies related to educational practice. Projects and on-site activities will benefit, where possible, schools of participating students.


Outcomes

As outcomes of this course, learners will: 

  • Analyze and solve issues of ethics, responsibilities, and copyright when using telecommunication technologies
  • Apply knowledge of telecommunication technology appropriately and proficiently in a school, home, or work environment
  • Help students develop an appreciation of the issues affecting the use of technology in education
  • Create, design, and develop online, interactive website to disseminate and receive information regarding issues in telecommunications
  • Utilize computing technology for purposes of collaboration, dissemination of information, research and development, and creativity

Describe how mathematics, creativity, logic, and originality are all needed to improve technology 

Principals of Technology

Demonstrate an understanding that in designing a device or process, thought should be given to how it will be manufactured, operated, maintained, replaced, or disposed of, and who will sell, operate, and take care of it.

Demonstrate an understanding that the mroe parts and connections a system has, the more ways it can go wrong.

Demonstrate an understanding that to reduce the chance of system failure, performance testing is often conducted in small-scale models.

Demonstrate an understanding that social and economic forces strongly influence which technologies will be developed and used.

Identify alternatives, risks, costs, and benefits to things to consider when introducing new technologies or curtailing existing ones.
