[Mauna Lahilahi] had a good bearing for the Holt's because it acted as a buffer going out in the ocean. The small steamers landed over there. That goes back to the 1890's. |

Sitting just south of Makaha Point, this steep precipice stands as a marker to that world famous (ocean) surf site. Lahilahi means "thin." The mountain is very thin as though it had been sliced with a knife and so it was called Mauna Lahilahi. Laukinui (large united family),a small island off Mauna Lahilahi, extends from here to the bay on Makaha Beach.
