Directions: For each assignment, the student must use all available resources, including the library and internet research, museum visitations, interview with community members, and email.
The islands of Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia are
listed on the web page titled "Islands of the South
Pacific". Go to the library, or use the internet to find
relatively detailed maps of the 3 major divisions of islands
of the South Pacific. Select one of the islands of
Melanesia. Research the culture of this island via books,
the internet, or visiting museums (could be online or in
person). Select at least 2 islands of
Polynesia. The focus of this lesson will be food from these
islands. Use all available resources to research different
foods. Select at least 2 islands of
Micronesia and research the education system. Electronic
communication with students from the two islands and from
their government should be included.
