Student's Internet/WAN Acceptable Use Policy

Students who use the DOE Internet/WAN systems are responsible to use the computer resources in support of the educational mission. The use of Olomana School's computing facilities and the Internet is a privilege, not a right. The Internet and WAN are Olomana School sites, the same as though they were a classroom or learning center. All Olomana School policies and procedures apply to the use of the Internet/WAN. If a user intentionally violates any of these provisions, his or her account will be terminated, and there may be other disciplinary consequences. If a student does NOT have his/her parent(s)/guardian's permission to use these resources, it is his/her responsibility to abide by that decision and not attempt to access these systems.

Definitions:

Internet: The Internet is a network of over three million computers in many countries. It allows communications from Olomana School computers to computers throughout the world. The main features of the Internet system are the ability to: a) communicate with other networks in other parts of the world; b) transfer files between locations c) send messages called "e-mail," and d) gain access to information in other parts of the world on demand.

WAN: The WAN is a computer network that connects computers within the DOE; it is a closed system in that it does NOT allow communications with computers outside of the DOE. The DOE WAN system includes the same features as the Internet, but only staff and students can access its information.
